You are invited to join Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kamela Patton, and six panelists for Collier County Public Schools’ (CCPS) first-ever Virtual Town Hall Meeting. The meeting will focus on Early Childhood Education (PreK - Grade 3). Topics of discussion will include: Kindergarten readiness, the role of parents in children’s learning, and strategies to help children become good readers and writers.
For the past three years, Dr. Patton has held six Town Hall Meetings annually at locations throughout the district. This year, the district will use technology to hold two meetings, each telecast from three locations simultaneously. As always, these meetings are all about two-way communication, and your input and feedback will help make them more meaningful than ever.

North Naples Middle School to Unveil 10-Year Time Capsule at Annual Fall FestivalNext Thursday, October 23, North Naples Middle School (NNM) invites you to their annual Fall Festival at the campus from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The festival will feature food, games, music, a haunted house, a costume contest, a pumpkin carving contest, the annual ghost run, a bungee run, a candy corner, and a photo booth. Another added bonus—they will be opening a 40-inch time capsule with memorabilia from its opening year! Principal Margaret Jackson, along with those in attendance, will read and display all the items locked away for the past 10 years. The time capsule will be stuffed again with this year’s items along with several from the original and locked away for another ten years. This will be a night of mystery and fun for all!
Sabal Palm Elementary Invites You to Annual Fall Festival - October 24thSabal Palm Elementary (SPE) invites you to their annual Fall Festival. All monies collected will provide for student supplies and field trips.
Palmetto Ridge High School's Fall Blood Drive Yields Record TurnoutSenior Donor Coordinator for the NCH Community Blood Center, Elizabeth Reyes, reported that Palmetto Ridge High School’s (PRH) Fall Blood Drive, sponsored by the Student Government Association, yielded a record turnout. PRH had more than 150 staff and students register in two days to donate blood, which will result in saving 354 lives!
East Naples Middle School Creates New Junior Civitan ClubEast Naples Middle School (ENM) is proud to announce that it has started a new Junior Civitan Club. This club will take on innovative service-learning projects in the community with a special focus on helping people with developmental disabilities. Student participants will also receive valuable leadership training. While the new club is just starting, ENM will be inducting over 20 student members at a ceremony later this month.
Mike Davis Elementary School Hosts Family Reading and Math NightMike Davis Elementary School (MDE) hosted a family Reading and Math Night on Tuesday. More than 100 parents participated with their children at “Camp Learn A Lot” and discovered fun ways they can incorporate reading and math at home. The camping spectacular allowed children to fish for math facts, read “A Camping Spree for Mr. Magee,” follow directions for making s’mores and then use their five senses to describe the process, and so much more. A special thank you to the teachers and leadership team for coordinating this special evening.
Immokalee High School's National Honor Society Receives Gift to Complete Service-Learning ProjectThe State Farm Youth Advisory Board presented a check for $79,750 to One by One Leadership Foundation of SW Florida to support the Immokalee High School (IHS) National Honor Society students in giving back to the Immokalee community by successfully completing the “Environmental Responsibility” project. IHS teacher Emily Schaefer served as consultant to students while Richard Kent served as guidance counselor in preparation for the grant. The full-scale project is for service learning around water quality and renewable energy and is expected to be completed by September 2015. According to Mr. Williams from One by One Foundation, “This should leave a better appreciation of the rich natural, educational, economic, and cultural community they attain through shared responsibility.” Below are the community partners that contributed funding and/or expertise to ensure this project is completed:

o iTECH Girls Team: 3rd Place - Total Look Gulf Coast Freshman Helps Bring Home USA Volleyball National ChampionshipCongratulations to Gulf Coast High School (GCH) freshman Gabrielle Curran. Gabrielle was selected to represent and play for Team Florida in USA Volleyball’s High Performance National Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was one of the 12 girls selected to the team from approximately 500 girls in her age group and helped to bring home the National Championship!
Immokalee High School Teacher Receives AFCEA STEM Teacher Scholarship and $1,000 AFCEA STEM Teaching Tools GrantImmokalee High School (IHS) teacher Tyler Wippel is a recipient of The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) STEM Teacher Scholarship and will receive a $1,000 AFCEA STEM Teaching Tools grant this year. The AFCEA Educational Foundation offers scholarships to students actively pursuing an undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or credential/licensure for the purpose of teaching subjects at a U.S. middle or secondary school. The scholarships are made possible by generous contributions from Booz Allen Hamilton, Terremark Worldwide, AFCEA International, and several of AFCEA’s regional chapters.
USDA Celebrates National School Lunch Week in Collier Schools
Included are pictures of Mr. Robin Bailey, the USDA Regional Administrator for the Southeast United States, visiting Manatee Elementary for the Battle of the Bands, which was held for National School Lunch Week. It was truly an honor that Collier County’s Nutrition Services Department was selected for this visit. Mr. Bailey is in charge of the entire Southeast United States and could have gone to any school district in the region. He chose Collier in part because of its Farm to School efforts and its Farm to School Snack program. Thank you, Mr. Bailey, for helping us celebrate National School Lunch Week!

Osceola Elementary School Hosts Family Reading and Writing NightOsceola Elementary School (OES) hosted a family Reading and Writing Night on Tuesday. More than 200 parents participated and learned about the new Florida Standards, assessment changes, and strategies to use with their children.
Palmetto Elementary School Celebrates Freedom WeekPalmetto Elementary School (PLE) celebrated Freedom Week by inviting Commander Steven Smith and Quartermaster/Adjutant Ralph Balzarano from the VFW Post 7721 to present on the WPLE Morning Show about the United States flag etiquette. The gentlemen also showed how the flag should be folded and presented the folded flag to the school. The flag is now in the PLE Media Center for the students to view.

Dr. Patton statement on K-2 FAIR Test suspension by Florida Department of EducationThe district appreciates the Florida Department of Education’s recognition of the concerns and challenges expressed to them regarding the quality, length, and technological problems experienced. In addition to staff daily communication of the past few weeks, yesterday, I also had the opportunity to speak with Commissioner Stuart to express our concerns. We appreciate the sincere efforts of the students, teachers, administrators, and district staff that worked to administer the FAIR assessment to this point. The difficulty experienced is why the Superintendents, last year, requested a multi-year roll out of the new assessment and accountability plan.&rdquo
