Golden Gate High School is in its second successful year of implementing a nationwide program known as AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination). This program is dedicated to helping students achieve their goal of going to college.  Students considered for AVID are bright students who have passed both sections of the FCAT and aspire to be college bound who can benefit from extra academic support and learning organizational skills.

Student candidates for AVID have academic, leadership, and personal potential to work hard and are recommended by teachers, peers, parents, and other students.  These students then apply and are interviewed by the school based-AVID site team.

AVID students are expected to maintain at least a B average and are enrolled in Honors and Advanced Studies (AP & AICE) classes as appropriate.

AVID students take the PSAT, and the SAT and/or ACT.  These students participate in twice-weekly tutorials and study at home in the evenings.  We encourage AVID students to be fully-participating members of their school; participation is expected in sports, clubs, and/or community volunteer groups.

Finally, AVID students are expected to keep an organized 3-ring binder and use Cornell note-taking strategies.  AVID students must have regular and prompt attendance, good behavior, and practice the Titan Way.
