Athletic Director / Activities Director
Andreas “Ernie” Modugno is beginning his 23rd year as the Athletic/Activities Director at Naples High School. Before becoming AD, Mr. Modugno taught social studies at NHS and in 1988 was the recipient of the NSDAR State of Florida American History Teacher of the Year award. In 1981 he became the first boys’ varsity soccer head coach at Naples High School as well as coach of the boys’ tennis team and an assistant coach in the Golden Eagle football program.
During Mr. Modugno’s tenure as the Athletic Director at Naples High School, Golden Eagle athletic teams have achieved 117 District championships, 53 Region championships, 30 State championships, and two National championships. Naples High School is regularly among the top, or THE top performing high school among public high school athletic programs in the FHSAA’s (Florida High School Athletic Association) annual All- Sports competition and during the 2008-09 school year, ESPN ranked Naples High School as the #16 best high school athletic program in the United States and the # 1 high school athletic program among all schools (both public and private) in the state of Florida. Many Naples High School athletic teams are also regularly among or THE top performing athletic team in the state in the FHSAA’s Academic Team Champion Awards program—which ranks athletic teams in all sports based on team cumulative grade point averages. It should also be noted that since 1988 well over 200 Naples High School student athletes have gone on to participate in athletics at the intercollegiate level and many coaches in a variety sports have earned local, state, and even national recognition.
Mr. Modugno is active in the Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrator’s Association (FIAAA) and from 2006-2009 he served as a Board Member on the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Board of Directors. He has earned B.A.’s in both history and education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, all from the University of South Florida.
Assistant Athletic Director / Activities Director
Robert (Bob) Bowe was the Golden Eagles’ head wrestling coach for six years from 2003 until 2009. Before teaching and coaching at Naples High, Bob was the Dean of Students in Kenosha Wisconsin, were he was the head wrestling coach for over 30 years. Bob currently teaches at Mike Davis Elementary School. Career coaching highlights include winning a wrestling team State Championship in 1978, and coaching twelve individual State Champions and many place winners. Coach Bowe’s teams won 16 Milwaukee area Conference titles, 10 Sectional crowns and 8 Regional championships. Bob finished his coaching career with 299 wins and 59 losses. He was elected to the Kenosha Unified Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994 and also the St. Joseph High School Hall of Fame in 2000. Bob also received the Distinguished Service Award for his role as a leader in the Dean of Students program. In 1992 Bob received the Mayor and School Board Award for saving the life of a student.
Bob has an extensive background in athletic event organization, serving as the tournament manager of countless Regional, Sectional, and Conference events in Wisconsin and he has also been a State Finals wrestling official on many occasions. Bob’s spouse Mary is a teacher in the ESE Department at NHS. They have one son who is also a teacher and a football and wrestling coach in Greenville, SC.
Athletic /Activities Office Assistant
Trish Hendry is beginning her fifth year as the athletic/activities office assistant at Naples High School. Her varied duties include, but are not limited to, verifying student athlete eligibility, reserve seat ticket sales (which are numerous), scheduling buses for all the athletic events and field trips, etc. She believes that she is blessed to be a part of such a wonderful school and athletic program. The staff and coaches at NHS are like a family and she couldn’t be more excited to be a Golden Eagle!
