ANGEL System Requirements 1

ANGEL is designed to support the widest variety of operating systems and Internet browsers through its limited use of client-side technologies. ANGEL is tested with and fully supports the following browsers:

  • Windows OS: Internet Explorer 7.0 and above, or FireFox 3.0 or higher
  • Macintosh OS: Mozilla 1.4 and above (which uses the same engine as Netscape 7.1). For Mac's, ANGEL requires that the OS be at least OS X.  The only other requirements ANGEL has is browser related.  ANGEL's browser support is for IE7 and Firefox 2.x.  ANGEL will support any major release of these two browsers within 6 weeks of their release.

Once the browser is installed you should be able to access ANGEL at http://angel.collierschools.com

If you are having difficulty accessing features in ANGEL after installing a browser that ANGEL supports, verify the following settings on your Web browser:

Make sure pop-up blockers are either off, or set to off for the ANGEL Web site.

If you have a version of Internet Explorer that is using pop-up blockers, you can turn this feature on and off directly from the Tools Menu. You can also set Internet Explorer to allow pop-up blockers only on the ANGEL Web site. There will be a dialogue box which asks you when it tries to load a pop-up window if you want to allow it to open.

Make sure Java is enabled.

By default, this should be set correctly.
To check in Internet Explorer, from the main menu:

  • Select Tools > Internet Options
  • Select the Advanced Tab
  • Scroll Down to Java and make sure the box is checked.
Make sure your browser is set to accept cookies.

By default Internet Explorer accepts cookies so unless you have modified your privacy settings, this should already be set properly.

A special note about Java in Mozilla-based Browsers (If you do not use the Live Chat, Virtual Office Hours, etc. in ANGEL you can skip this note)

Currently Java (an object-oriented programming language used to produce server applications for the Web)  is supported differently in different browsers. ANGEL uses Java for several features to display Java Applets (small Web applications designed to work within another application). If you have difficulty using the ANGEL Live features using the supported Mozilla based browsers, try using Safari which supports the latest  version of Java.  If you use these ANGEL features regularly and do not want to switch back and forth between browsers, consider installing the Java Embedding Plug-In which is a utility that allows Mozilla based browsers to display the latest version of Java.
